The Healthy Hair Regime
At Philip Kingsley, our primary concern is the health of your hair and scalp. After all, healthy hair is beautiful hair. But we also understand how hard it can be to incorporate healthy hair habits into your daily styling and maintenance routine: we are all busy, pressed for time, and sometimes at a loss when it comes to taking care of ourselves. So we polled our expert Trichologists to find out their favourite, indispensable healthy-hair products, as well as their top tips for incorporating them into your life. Read on to find out more…
Tip 1. Weekly Hair Mask
Pre-shampoo hair masks are important for anyone’s hair care routine – and they are essential if you colour your hair, use heated styling tools, swim, or spend a lot of time in the sun. The best masks, such as our cult product Elasticizer, leave your hair strengthened, hydrated and soft.
Aim to apply a mask at least once a week – you’ll get best results with regular use. If this sounds daunting time-wise, try multitasking while you mask: Run your hairbrush under the tap and brush it through to dampen your hair. Then apply Elasticizer, and leave it to work its magic for twenty minutes while you run errands, stick dinner in the oven, answer a few emails, or open a bottle of wine.
Sleeping with Elasticizer in is also a great time-saving way to get an intensive hair treatment. Wrap your hair in a microfibre turban, let your Elasticizer do its work overnight, then shampoo it out in the morning.
Tip 2. Scalp Toner
Scalp toners are not only a great way to keep your scalp clear, refreshed and healthy – they are also super quick to use. After shampooing and conditioning, apply a water-based toner (such as Philip Kingsley Flaky Itchy Scalp Toner) evenly to your scalp by parting at approximately 1-inch intervals. Gently massage the product in – and you’re done! Follow with your normal styling products and finish styling your hair as usual.
Tip 3. Exfoliate
Healthy hair grows from a healthy scalp. And a healthy scalp is a scalp clear of flakes, dead skin cells, oil, sweat, bacteria and residue – all of which build up during a busy working week. Try combining an exfoliating scalp mask with your weekly Elasticizer treatment (see above!) to keep your scalp fresh and healthy. Tip 4. Style your hair happy
Using the right styling products can shave precious minutes off of your styling routine. Mousses and sprays can be amazing for adding fullness, while creams and serums will mostly provide control and smoothness. Tip 5. Consult with a Trichologist
You may think that visiting a Trichologist is a last resort, but many people choose to visit one before they experience hair issues, for a hair MOT or to spot any early signs of hair loss. This can pay in the long term by identifying potential problems before they arise and taking steps to keep them at bay. Think of it in terms of a dental check-up: it’s always best to seek prevention rather than cure.
